Capitola

Off the 1 highway, you’ll find a quaint little town called Capitola. Though small, it should not be missed because it packs big time charm!

There are restaurants to dine at, murals to see, dessert places to enjoy, and shops to visit.

Though it was Memorial Day weekend, we had no trouble finding parking at a fair price. Some restaurants have views to the popular colored homes that have become a symbol of this city. It’s like walking through a coastal village in Italy.

Please note that these pastel hued residences are on private property. I’ll admit, finding access to this beach front was a bit tricky for a 1st timer like me. I didn’t see the privately owned signs and ended up going through the premises through an open alley way. To get to the beach though, you just have to go to the pier ahead of the properties. On your left side, you’ll find stairs that give way to the beach area.

Taking a walk at the wharf also gives you a unique perspective of the coast. We were able to see surfers and seals in the sea. I attained a great sense of peace and tranquility.

Though there were visitors, it wasn’t a huge crowd as let’s say, Santa Monica pier. I wish we would have had more time to explore Capitola. In the short lapse we were able to stay, I fell in love. I would like to return again one day and stay the next time I’m in the area!
